About Pilates

Pilates is an extremely popular and effective form of exercise that is practised by people from all walks of life, including dancers, elite athletes, fitness enthusiasts and those with symptoms of pain, especially back pain.

 In the Pilates method, the emphasis is on quality of movement rather than quantity or load, to ensure that the right muscles are used at the right time.

 When performed correctly, Pilates can result in improved posture and balance, greater flexibility, reduced stress levels and greater injury resistance and recovery. 

Pilates seeks to develop a balanced approach to lengthening and strengthening  key groups of muscles through a thorough  understanding of human anatomy, physiology and kinesiology (the study of movement).
